The ingredients are fresh, and the food is delicious. I'd even say that it's almost as good as our English cuisine (haha - joking). Eating in Paris is a pleasurable event to be savored. It's not about a quick fix, but enjoying the experience and taking your time. We really enjoyed all the food in Paris (we had no bad meals). Some food highlights for me were: Abbay trying to eat snails with special snail tongs but the snails not complying! It took her a long time to eat her starter... Eating delicious beef bourguignon (bœuf bourgignon in french). It must have been cooking for days to be so tender and full of flavor! Freshly baked breakfast pastries. Everyday. He had a similar English accent to me, but he was born in France and now lives in Paris. He spoke English without a hint of a French accent (something that I'd never experienced before), and obviously, he spoke perfect French. We met him in the lobby of our hotel, Esprit Saint Germain. He was impeccably dressed, had expert knowledge of the history, art, culture, food etc. of Paris, but most of all, he was just a nice, interesting guy to spend the day with. We stayed in several beautiful hotels during our time in Paris. They were all stunning, however, Esprit Saint Germain stood out for me because it felt cozy, like I was drinking champagne in somebody's living room. Its stylish decor, helpful staff and prime location help too. And yes, help yourself to the open bottle of champagne and other drinks in the Library Lounge (they are all complimentary). The Eiffel Tour is not just 'good', it's 'amazing'! Perhaps this is because I'm a Chartered Civil Engineer (yes, my previous career), but I love the engineering masterpiece that is the Eiffel Tower. No doubt that it's touristy and can be overcrowded, but that's for a reason - it's amazing. It feels very high when you get to the top. The wind is blowing and you're open to the elements, but wow, the view is incredible! Even though it was great to be at the top, I'm scared of heights (I was holding on for dear-life!), so I was happy when we finally made it back to ground level. He's a trooper, but I'm sure that's what every new parent thinks about their baby. We took Leo with us to Paris,and it was great fun! He was 3 months old and now looking so small in the pictures! We took him up the Eiffel Tower, toured the Louvre museum, visited numerous hotels (for research purposes) and walked all over Paris. All of this done in his baby wrap. Traveling with a baby takes some planning and comes with additional logistics, but it's definitely worth doing because we came away with some great family memories. At the heart of Alentejo is the hill, an ancient small farming village that has been lovingly reimagined as a luxury hotel, surrounded by ancient oaks, olive groves, vineyards, and even wild horses. I expected my stay to be special, but my experience actually far exceeded my expectations. It's the type of accommodation that is an experience rather than just a place to rest your head at night. The second half, which we did the following day, from Evora to the property was beautiful! We drove through farmland, vineyards, and tiny towns - it felt like we were truly getting off the beaten path. Once we met turn off to the tree-lined cobblestone drive to the property, I knew that we were in for a treat. Top it off with warm, southern Europe sunshine, and it felt like one of the most fun travel days I have had in a long time. Almost immediately, I felt an overall sense of relaxedness about the property, the kind that makes you feel at home and isn't always easy to come by, especially when traveling with a baby. Also, I'll add that it was also the type of relaxed environment that makes socializing with the other guests feel very easy and natural. Most of the other guests who we met were either British, American, or Portuguese. We love meeting other people while we are traveling and made fast friends here. Every architecture detail was planned to allow you discover the farm and its perks. You’ll find that heritage meets natural materials and quality design and that is felt throughout all the guest rooms and cottages, across the furniture (including vintage and contemporary pieces), fabrics, tiny details, and thoughtful touches. We stayed in a farm room which is a lower category yet still 645 sq ft, also with a terrace between 215-430 sq ft. Horse riding: The property is a horse lover's dream! Before I arrived at the property Monsaraz wasn't on my radar, but it should have been - it's truly a hidden gem! Its white-washed walls reminded me of Santorini (without the crowds), but it was also distinctively Portuguese. A visit is an absolute must including lunch at tiny, O Gaspacho, with the most delightful owner and simple yet, perfect dishes. The property is absolutely perfect for young children and fully equipped with chic farm cribs (or cots as they refer to them in the UK and Europe) and high chairs. If you wish, you can even organize babysitting services. The best part for kids might be the 'working farm' aspect of the property, including the daily morning feeding of the animals (pictured). There are also treasure hunts and even a donkey cart ride. Our little one was a bit too young to get too involved, but he did (with the help of Dad) feed the resident donkey, Jeronimo. It will be no surprise that every month, they use the best seasonal produce including ingredients that are sourced from their very own organic vegetable garden and from other small producers. It's always best to make reservations in advance. I recommend: A fireside dinner in the main restaurant, Lunch at the pool bar, and Depending on the time of year, the seasonal restaurant, aka a big delicious outdoor BBQ. For a long time here in New Zealand, I threatened to sign up for a surf lesson. Although it wasn't until we visited the Philippines on our 9-month sabbatical that I actually followed through on this and took my first proper lesson. As soon as I started catching waves (albeit very tiny ones), I LOVED it. I loved it so much that we scrapped our next travel plans and opted to go to Sri Lanka for surfing instead. This will sound cheesy but getting out of our comfort zones can really shake things in all kinds of unexpected ways (and travel is such a fun way to do it!).
